Linking Mathematics and Literature
Grade Level: 2-5
When provided with a variety of tools, teachers are best able to promote deeper understanding of underlying mathematical skills and concepts. One strong yet often under utilized tool in mathematics is children’s literature.
In this 10-hour course, participants will:
- Familiarize themselves with a wide variety of math-related children’s literature
- Explore mathematical concepts
- Consider visual models in various texts and in related hands-on activities
- Celebrate the unique role that literature plays in helping students to discover and enjoy math
- Participate in and prepare lessons to use in their own classrooms.
