Bridges in Mathematics: A Closer Look

Grade Level: K-5

(Currently offered K-5 by individual or blended grade levels.) This eight-week online course offers support for those currently implementing Bridges in Mathematics including teachers, resource specialists, student teachers, staff developers, teacher assistants, and paraprofessionals.

The extended time frame and online format allow for deep reflection and a learning experience tailored to the particular circumstances of each participant. A Closer Look addresses successful implementation of the curriculum while also investigating why and how this approach to learning mathematics benefits both the teacher and the student.

Areas of focus include:

  • Exploring mathematical "Big Ideas" within the lessons you are teaching.
  • Using questioning strategies to promote autonomous, self-directed student learning.
  • Planning mathematics lessons using visual models.
  • Organizing and managing the classroom.
  • Using Home Connections to enhance parent communication.
  • Using student work to assess mathematical growth.
